NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) - Fifty thousand words in thirty days. Start from scratch, write all night, show up for write-ins. You're competing against yourself for bragging rights and a cool badge to display on your website. You've got to make your 50,000 words to get the badge, but hey, it's easier than a 3-day novel. Two of our writer members are multi-year finishers. Set aside the month of November. You're going to be busy.

Aoife's Kiss Magazine (pronounced EE-fah, which is Irish for Eve) - A quarterly print magazine looking for short stories, poetry, art/illustrations, and articles [including book and movie reviews] in the following genres: science fiction, fantasy, and horror. These genres include several subgenres, among them sword & sorcery, steampunk, paranormal, slipstream, interstitial, and cyberpunk. The editors specifiy that they are not looking for a lot of blood and gore, preferring to find horror in the unexpected. Aoife's Kiss is one of a group of magazines published by Sam's Dot Publishing, therefore the website listed here is the parent website. Follow the magazine covers to discover all the genres published.

Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine - An Australian magazine publishing science fiction, fantasy and horror. The magazine is available in print and PDF form. ASIM also publishes stories and poetry in anthologies. An interesting feature on the website is the Submission Tracking tool. Submissions are assigned a reference number as they enter a three-round reading process. You can follow your submission through the process, so you never have to wonder if it is lost somewhere or on the bottom of some editor's pile.
